Exercise 2.4 – Woodpecker

Part 2 – Project:1 Exercise 2.4

I used a very shallow depth of field on all the images but went one stop up for the last one as suggested in the course file. In a way, the first two photographs require more from the viewer as they are more abstract. The first photograph focuses the eye on the wood, the shapes made against the background and the serendipitous arrival of a beetle which photobombed the shot. The change point of focus for the second picture drew the gaze through to what lay beyond and the foreground became almost unimportant. In both instances, the viewer was drawn to what I as the photographer wanted them to see. In the final photograph the shot gave away a lot more information, it might still pose questions but it is more obviously a chair back set in a garden.

I wanted to give this another try in surroundings where I wasn’t able to construct the image.

Although I stood in the same place the beehive in the first image looks bigger and closer. It is more obvious that the hive is the focus of attention while the second image is more about the plants.
